Help for the Irvings
What are the ways that OT and other professions can help the Irvings?
- Josh could seek help for his PTSD from a psychiatrist or psychologist. (See Practices tab for more information on other professions)
- Josh could see an OT for help with his PTSD. An OT could help him manage daily tasks, create a daily schedule, and work on coping skills. To help with his aversion to loud noises, an OT might try a graded desensitization technique or a virtual reality environment. Additionally, an OT could help with Josh's alcohol abuse.
- An OT could help educate the Kaylee, Olivia, and Tara about PTSD and introduce ways that they could help Josh with his struggles.
- An OT may also participate in education in Josh's community about what life is like for those returning from combat and how the community as a whole can support him.
